Position Overview

Director of Individual Giving

Our Illinois affiliate is currently seeking an experienced Director of Individual Giving who is knowledgeable about moves management and savvy in the donor relations arena.


Areas of success in the role include the following:

  • Expand the organization’s donor base through identification and major gifts
  • Maintain an aggressive prospective portfolio of 100 or more active donors with gifts of $10,000+ annually
  • In partnership with external consultant and the President, generates lead and major gifts for an upcoming $5 million capital campaign
  • Develops and manages strategies for high-level donors and prospective donors including timely and accurate documentation of conversations and contacts with donors, volunteers, board members, and staff
  • In partnership with the President and Board of Directors, fosters and nurtures relationships with the organization’s donors and community through intentional stewardship and cultivation efforts
  • Develops a working knowledge the organization’s strategic initiative, and funding priorities
  • Promotes the mission of Boys Hope Girls Hope to the community
  • Manages prospective donors within a team-based approach and raises funds through multiple relationships with prospective donors through the defined Core Process
  • Interacts with board members, volunteers, leadership and community members
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with key volunteers, prospects, and donors
  • Identifies or creates meaningful organizational volunteer opportunities for major gift donors and prospects
  • Supports all fundraising events
  • Performs other duties as negotiated and assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

  • A Bachelor of Arts or Science degree from an accredited university required; Master’s degree and/or CFRE status preferred
  • Five or more years of professional experience in fund development or other disciplines with transferrable skills, preferably in an education or youth development organization
  • Demonstrated successful track record in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of major gift ($10,000+) prospects and donors
  • Excellent time-management skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities
  • Familiarity with prospect management systems and Salesforce (highly desirable)
  • Exceptional organizational and communication skills (both oral and written), with an understanding of diplomacy, tact, and courtesy are paramount
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Suite
